July 25, 2013 - Beekeepers are asked to be on the look out for a man passing bad checks.
Reports from several beekeepers in Southeast Michigan have been coming in telling how a man is approaching honey producers, purchasing honey, and writing bad checks.
The bad check writer, who goes by Abdul Aljhain, contacts beekeepers and routinely asks to purchase comb honey. Afterwards, this same person will then ask to purchase larger quantities of honey, typically in 5 gallon buckets. He then will offer a check, oftentimes off of a business called US Central Wholesale, with a 7 Mile Rd., Livonia, address. This location is a closed business, and given phone numbers aren't working or answered. Several home addresses are also given, located either in Detroit or Hamtramck. None of which are correct.
Honey stolen, so far, have been reported to be $200 by one beekeeper, and $700 by another. Other beekeepers have had losses also, but dollar amounts were not given.
If you are approached by this person, do not sell them honey. Instead, get a detailed description of the person, including the license plate of the vehicle they drive, driver's license information if possible, and report it to the police. Also, please forward this information to Michigan Beekeepers' Association Secretary, Don Schram, who will pass the information on to the beekeepers involved.
Please share this information with other beekeepers and honey sellers in Michigan
