With November is just a few days away, it is time for Mid-Michigan Beekeepers Club Meeting.
When: Thursday November 1st, 2012
Where: Richfield Township Hall 5381 N. State Road Davison MI 48423
Time: doors open at 6:30p.m. Meeting starts at 7:00p.m.
This year looks like the cold weather is starting early. Hope everyone is staying warm.
I would like you to think on a date that we can hold our club Christmas party.
Also we are going to be placing a bee order earlier than last year due to the shortage of bee and the demand of bees. Dave Anthony talked with me at the Fall Conference he is taking first come first serve basis for the bee orders; as soon as the order blanks are available.
We also have Bob Hollis and Don Schram who will also be taking orders for bees as well, so please think on that as well. I know that is very early, hard to tell what you may need for bees. I am just passing along what I was told.
It is getting that time to add candy boards to your hives if you haven't already. This month meeting Jim Withers will be talking winterizing your bees. Some beekeepers use Candy boards, I know Don Schram uses 5# sugar on a newspaper in his hives for the winter. Some beekeepers wrap their hives in tar paper, some don't. Each beekeeper uses what works best for their hive.
Now that the bees are going to be settled down for the winter, it’s time to start thinking ahead for spring preparation: Washing your suit, cleaning out old boxes, building new boxes etc. I hope to get the hand out printed off so it will be available for this meeting.
Please bring any questions you may have on your fall harvest and hives, we can address them after the winterizing session.
