Hello Beekeepers!

It was good to see everyone at last month's club picnic.  If you weren't able to join us, you missed out on some good conversation and great food.  But, it's time again for our regular club meetings again.  This Thursday, August 6th, we'd love for you to join us at the Richfield Township Offices for our Mid-Michigan Beekeepers Club meeting.  The meeting starts at 7pm and lasts until 9pm or so.  As always, feel free to bring your friends who may be curious about beekeeping.
 -----
Later this month, Mid-Michigan Beekeeper's Club will be sponsoring apitherapist Kristine Jacobson.  Kristine lives in the Grand Rapids area and is a therapist who uses products from the hive to encourage everyday health, including propolis and pollen, in addition to Bee Venom Therapy (BVT).  BVT uses the honey bees themselves to treat such ailments as arthritis and pinched nerves.  Kristine Jacobson is slated to appear on August 22nd, at 10am at the Richfield Township Offices (our regular meeting spot).  The event is free, however donations are appreciated.  We would love for you to join us!

Well I have been locked out of using the web page for a little bit after a reformat, Couldnt log in and stay logged in to use the site (a problem many of you have reported)

Kim suggested I install Mozilla Firefox which is letting me in and use the site w/ no problems.

If you are having any problems using our web site please try it out.. It really is a superior program than windows explorer!

Mid-Michigan Beekeeper's Club will be sponsoring apitherapist Kristine Jacobson, who was guest speaker at the Spring SEMBA meeting, and was recently featured on The Travel Channel.  Apitherapy is the use of products from the hive to encourage everyday health, and uses products ranging from propolis (a natural anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial) to pollen (traditionally used to treat seasonal allergies).  Living in the Grand Rapids area, Kristine is also a practitioner of Bee Venom Therapy (BVT) and uses the honey bees themselves to treat common ailments such as arthritis and pinched nerves.  BVT has also been shown to be effective in treating patients with MS.  Technically in the realm of folk medicine, her results are very real.  Bees, and their products, have been used for centuries in Eastern medicines and is gaining interest in America.  Kristine Jacobson is slated to appear on August 22nd, at 10am.  We would love for you to join us in this interesting aspect of beekeeping!

NOTE: check out the Video Page for her appearance on THE TRAVEL CHANNELS "EXTREME ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS"

I understand that quite a few people have tried to sign up for our website but have had trouble doing so this last week. There may be many reasons for this including E3 but I do have a solution till we figure out how to fix this. If you have trouble and cannot sign up properly you may call me at 810-820-2826 and leave a message including your name and return phone number and I will call you back. DO NOT hang up if I do not answer because I normally screen my calls and probably will never answer but I do have free long distance so calling you back is no problem! - Paul 810-336-6494

It's that time again!  Mid-Michigan Beekeepers Club is meeting this Thursday, June 04, at 7pm.  We'd love to hear your beekeeping stories, and any ideas or hints you may have stumbled across this season.

At this upcoming meeting, club Treasurer Jim Withers will be passing around a sign-up sheet for the upcoming Club Picnic, set for Saturday, July 11th.  If you have a favorite dish that you enjoy making, we'd love to try it!  Contrary to popular belief, all dishes DON'T have to contain honey for them to be welcome!  Also, as a heads-up, next month's July meeting will NOT be on the first Thursday.  Instead, we've decided to have it on the second Saturday as a daytime family event.  Grilled meats, such as hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided by the Mid-Michigan Beekeeper's Club, so please sign up to bring pot-luck style side dishes!  More information will be given at the meeting.

Brad Perez has been asked to speak a little about propolis, and Don Schram has been asked to speak a little about apitherapy, better known as bee sting therapy.  And, as always, there will be time for YOUR beekeeping questions too!

So, won't you join us tomorrow?  We hope to see you there!

I thought it would be a good idea to bring a sign up sheet to the next meeting to prepare for the summer picnic. If I understand things correctly the picnic will be a pot-luck style gathering. The club will supply the hamburgers and hot dogs but the rest of us should bring something as well if we are able to. So I would like to pass around this sign up sheet so that we could cover things like paper plates, plastic spoons and forks, soda, ice, desserts etc..

Cheers
Jim
